easyHotel Cardiff is the Fifth Site to Receive Carbon Neutral Water System

The budget hotel brand, easyHotel are making headway to become the leaders in low-cost, low-carbon hotels in the UK. The Cardiff site marks the fifth hotel to receive a carbon neutral hot water system to serve all of its 120 rooms.

Synecore is Supporting easyHotel’s Carbon Neutral Plan

The easyHotels brand is almost halfway to fulfilling its commitment to reducing the carbon footprint by 45 per cent at twelve of its UK sites by the end of 2025. Synecore is supporting the brand by installing a highly efficient hot water system, coupled with Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to provide an entirely carbon neutral method of heating its sanitary water, which serves the hotel’s washrooms, kitchens and laundry.

Synecore Retrofits Mitsubishi HD’s Revolutionary Hot Water System to Five of Twelve easyHotels

The Mitsubishi Q-ton is an air to water heatpump that uses C02 gas as a refrigerant to minimise the GWP. When coupled with a Photovoltaic (PV) solar panel system, mounted on the hotel’s roof, the Q-ton system is the ultimate carbon neutral hot water system.

The Q-ton sanitary hot water system produces high volume hot water supply using ambient air temperature and a small amount of electricity, which, in the case of easyHotels, is supplied solar power.

Compared to a traditional gas boiler, the Q-ton emits 76% less C02 emissions, and 74% less than an electric heated system. The annual cost savings are typically 76% less than electric and 46% lower than a gas boiler.

Synecore has so far retrofit the Q-ton sanitary hot water systems to easyHotels in Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Sheffield, London and Cardiff. With seven more sites to complete by the end of the year, Synecore is ahead of schedule.

“Working with a brand that is open to installing new, efficient and sustainable technology is encouraging. But we need more brands to follow in their footsteps and secure a brighter future for our planet. The technology exists and with our engineering expertise, it is possible to make huge leaps to reducing building carbon emissions. It’s up to us to educate our customers about the possibilities and ensure their application renders exceptional results. Its an exciting time for the building technology sector and we’re delighted to be playing a critical role alongside our andwis Group partners.”

How Does the Q-ton Perform?

The air to water heatpump technology delivers water temperatures between 60 to 90 degrees Celsius, even when the outside ambient temperature is as low as -25 degrees Celsius.

Not only can it supply sanitary hot water, it is also highly effective for space heating, as it can maintain 100% capacity in radiators and underfloor heating, when outside temperatures dip as low as -7 degrees Celsius. Such low temperatures are a rare occurrence in the UK, making the Q-ton system a safe, reliable and consistent solutions for sanitary water and space heating.

As we see an increasing demand for more efficient builidings, the Q-ton is most certainly a credible option for large volume hot water usage in commercial complexes, such as hotels, leisure facilities, spas and more.

The Q-ton Specification for easyHotels Cardiff

The Cardiff installation was very similar to the Liverpool easyHotel – our first completed site for the hotel giant. We supplied and installed three 90kW Q-Ton systems to serve 120 bedrooms at full capacity every day. A single Q-ton system can produce 100,000 litres of hot water per day, therefore and the three Q-ton units that we installed can deliver a combined 300,000 litres of carbon neutral hot water to the hotel daily.
