Synecore Completes Electrical Fit Out for Sussex House Kitchen & Bar at Gatwick Airport

Welcoming jet setters to London’s Gatwick Airport, is the latest culinary and beverage brand, by The Restaurant Group, Sussex House Kitchen and Bar.

Replaces the outgoing Nicolas Culpeper, Gatwick’s Sussex House provides a fresh and contemporary dining experience for holidaymakers and travelling professionals.

As one of Synecore’s long-standing clients, The Restaurant Group, we were delighted to provide the electrical fit to support the interior transformation. Having previously fitted out the outgoing Nicholas Culpeper Restaurant, we were well adept to its electrical layout and design, making this a straight forward electrical fit out.

The Restaurant Group

The Restaurant Group operates some of the most well-known and popular hospitality brands in the UK, including the likes of Wagamama and Barburrito.

Synecore has supported the electrical fit out and refurbishment for the Group’s multiple airport concessions for many years. On this occasion, Synecore was adapting the front of house unit at Gatwick’s South Terminal, which our team had originally fitted out as Nicolas Culpeper. Now it was being transformed and rebranded as The Sussex House Kitchen and Bar.

Front of House Electrical Transformation

To support the front of house transformation design and refurbishment, Synecore was contracted to provide the electrical fit out and alterations that would accommodate the new design features. This involved adapting the electrical design, installing and replacing fixtures, while ensuring the power needs were met.

Supporting the New Interior Design

The Sussex House rebrand was overseen by design experts, Interiors UK. Working to their interior design scheme, we adapted the electrical installation to support new feature lighting, illuminated signage and ensure adequate power, sockets and fixtures were installed as required.

“Working on the transformation of The Nicholas Culpeper into the all-new Sussex House Kitchen & Bar has been a truly rewarding journey. Beyond the stunning redesign, we were proud to play a key role in undertaking the electrical changes that helped bring the new vision to life.

The project brought challenges, but collaborating with such a talented team made the process enjoyable from start to finish.”
Phil Beaney, Synecore’s Electrical Director

The Challenges of Working Airside

Synecore has completed multiple airside developments for The Restaurant Group throughout the UK. Working in a highly secure setting can bring many challenges, including additional safety requirements for electrical installations, security clearance for our engineers, and tight timelines to ensure a fast and effective opening.

Our extensive experience in delivering electrical installations at high security venues, including airports, power stations and data centres, meant we could turn this project around in record time and to a high standard.

Final Thoughts

Transforming The Nicholas Culpeper into the all-new Sussex House Kitchen and Bar was relied heavily on effective electrical integration. Despite the tight timeline, regulatory requirements, and the complexities of working within a busy airport environment, the electrical fit-out was completed successfully in just eight weeks.

Bringing the restaurant’s stunning design to life in the tight time frames was testament to the expertise, collaboration, and professionalism of all involved and is a perfect example of how well-executed electrical works can contribute to a transformative customer experience. The new Sussex House Kitchen and Bar is now open for customers Gatwick, delivering not only excellent food and drink but also a relaxed atmosphere.
